Working on some map upgrades
« on: February 20, 2019, 01:38:48 PM »
I spent some time this weekend adding some elevation data to my topo. Unfortunately Basecamp is making it difficult to transfer to a GPS without some messing around. Garmin has changed it's installer so....this one is not for distribution....yet .

Below are some screenshots from Basecamp. With the addition of the digital elevation in the maps, it now shows route elevation profiles. Before the profiles were only available with a recorded track.

People are always saying I should turn my trip reports into a book. What REALLY needs to be turned into a book are your maps! Id buy it in a heartbeat.

I now have a stable and editable product. The hill shading for 3D is not perfect at cliffs. but is currently the best data available. The contour lines in 2D are best for planning, but the 3D view gives a great idea of the look and feel. Having an elevation profile when planning routes is very helpful...

Looking SW towards Marufo Vega Trail.

I'm liking it!

This is stunning work, BK. I'd say its utility is very, very high. Certainly for trip planning, but also for scientific study, for SAR, and also for pure pleasure.

Is that Arroyo Venado I see in the foreground of the image?
