New Mexico SR 137 is CLOSED from mile marker 1 to 3 north of the Texas state line. Major road maintenance will keep this closed until further notice. DC trails, corral, and campground are open, but ONLY accessible by foot from Tejas/Bush Mountain trails.

So the campground is not "closed" but you just can't get there...
You can always walk to it.

Just talked to the ranger on duty there over Labor Day.  New Mexico wouldn't give them any advance notice of when construction would happen, but it had been imminent for weeks/months.  There was previous maintenance that closed the road for an extended time, and they had finally put up the "CLOSED" signs on the highway exit signs a few days before it ended. They of course left them up even though the road was open, but luckily I had seen the notice on the GUMO website.

A stream/drainage washed out under the road from floods earlier this year and they're repairing it.

What's curious about this is that the website that the New Mexico Department of Transportation maintains for notices of road closures has no mention of this closure at all.  I'm planning on going to Dog Canyon at the beginning of November, and hopefully whatever work is being done will be completed by then.

FWIW GUMO posted this on their Facebook Wednesday: "It's been closed off and on for weeks. Work began in September and NMDOT told us it would take a couple of months to complete the repairs. "

Basically no change. ANd that NM road condition page is horrible. did i already say that?
