Planning Videos: GUMO Backcountry Campsites
« on: April 07, 2016, 11:57:02 AM »
I made these short videos over-viewing each of these campsites. They show the general look of each campground as well as individual campsite photos. Hope these may help someone with future planning for a trip at GUMO.

Marcus Campground

Blue Ridge Campground

Bush Mountain Campground

Pine Top Campground

Tejas Campground

No video, but here's a view of the three tent pads at the Guadalupe Peak site:

The top one is the most exposed, but has the closest sunset view.

The middle one has a man-made wind break. I imagine the breeze really whistles through those branches.

The bottom one has a natural wind break, as well as a possible sunrise view and a view of the trail.

Thanks Richard for adding these. I've stayed at Guadalupe Peak before but just thought of doing videos this last trip. These 5 videos are the backcountry sites I passed on this trip.

If anyone else has some pictures of videos of Mckittrick Ridge, Mescalero, Shumard, Wilderness Ridge, Pine Springs, Dog Canyon, etc., it'd be great if you share them. I have a couple pictures from when I stayed at Shumard that I can post soon.

I mainly made these videos to show people the sites it is possible to hang a hammock at. But also, there is a lack of info for these back country campsites online. I contacted GUMO about this and suggested that it would be very helpful to have more info and pictures of the back country sites but never received any response.

And a couple from Pine Springs.  I think I might also have some pics of McKittrick Ridge, Wilderness Ridge and Mescalero but I'll have to look through my photos and maybe put them up later.

I only have one picture from the Shumard Campsite and it isn't very broad. But this is pretty much what the few tent pads look like. No trees. But great views. Was a good site during cooler temperatures.

Ok, Mescalero. *However* realize this is 1986. There may have been significant tectonic shift since these were taken.

I don't usually take pictures of campsites, as I'm more interested in photographing natural rather than man-made objects (other than archaeological sites).  However, the two intersected during my stay at McKittrick Ridge Campsite in November 2015:

I did these a few months ago. Just adding to the thread. Here are a few more campsite videos for Guadalupe Mountains. Hopefully this helps anyone out who hasn't been to the area and is gathering info on backcountry campsites.

And here is a video from the Guadalupe Peak Backcountry Site. 1 mile from the actual summit. Been up here before but just got around to making the video for anyone planning a trip.
