Had I arrived at a locked gate after having driven 7+ hours with no prior notice would indeed have made me pretty mad.  Notice was apparently on the web site making that a moot point.  Not posting the rationale for the closure would have been about number 87 on my list of concerns.  Perhaps lost in the rumble is that the web site was apparently updated with the closure reason the very same day someone brought to their attention the public concern.

Yup, argument seems moot now. Reason for closure, albeit grammatically painful, was posted.

Williams Ranch Road closed to the public - February 12, 2018

Williams Ranch Road will be inaccessible to visitor traffic until further notice; no keys to the Williams Ranch Road gates will be issued at this time. Hikers and stock riders can still access Williams Ranch from El Capitan Trail.

Anybody know why?

A brief return to this topic, to show GUMO and BIBE how such notices can and should provide all the necessary information (when written by someone having a clue about clarity).

It's short, to the point; telling everyone when the road will be closed...and very importantly, WHY the closure is occurring. BIBE/GUMO take note (re Cottonwood CG and Williams Ranch rd) so that the public is not left wondering what is going on nor having to drag the information out of the NPS in drips and dribbles.
