Mariscal Rim
« on: June 03, 2010, 01:32:38 PM »
Has anyone hiked the Mariscal Rim recently?  Is it it a day hike or backpack trip?
Will a 12 year old do ok on this hike?
Photos anyone?

This time of year it's neither. It will be hot as blazes.

One could dayhike from Talley to a couple of rim viewpoints in a cooler day. Any exploration beyond is probably best handled as an over-nighter (or two). There is no shade and no water up there - carry all of both you need.

Also, I would only dayhike if I'd spent the previous night at Talley. It is a very long drive to that site (and the trailhead) from anywhere.
