Summer Solo
« on: August 08, 2014, 11:43:26 AM »
I was in El Campo seeing what sites where being used and scrolled back to browse the last 2 weeks usage and noticed what is seen in the attached, so I took a screenshot.  :icon_cool:

As I stared at it, it clicked that the OML had been done, clock-wise, a 3-nighter, and solo at that.   :icon_eek:

Sure wouldn't mind reading such a story... maybe they hiked real early in the day. :eusa_whistle:

Wow!  I think you must be correct.  What was the weather like July 31-Aug.2?
temperatures exceed 100 degrees F
minimum 1 gallon water per person/day

Here are temps from PJ during that period. Apparently, that was when a cool front made it down...

Looks like they had pretty good timing. RGV was 84-97 on 7/31, 82-90 on 8/1, and 74-97 on 8/2. PJ was 78-89, 72-83, and 69-88 on the same days.

Looks like they either waited for a break in the weather or were really lucky.

Don't get too excited.  One of the rangers used the live permit system to train someone by entering a "dummy" permit.

Can't they at least fake a trip report to go with it?

A year later... Perhaps the Rangers were training someone on the permit system again?   :icon_cool:   I think not.   ;)

Looks like someone enjoys having the entire quemada to themselves every summer. More power to them. I would love for them to post a trip report on here.

That must be their warm up hike for the following week when they hike Ubehebe Crater in Death Valley National Park.   :)
