Mesa de Anguila closed?
« on: February 11, 2019, 12:51:31 PM »
My friend got to Big Bend yesterday and was going to follow one of my previous trip reports to the MdA but the NPS told him that the entire Mesa is closed to overnight camping because of a four day training. Heís now out of cell service so I canít get any more info from him. Iím bummed for him, what gives? Anyone heard of this happening before? What kind of training do they do up there?
It's amazing how quickly the human body deteriorates when you sit around indoors.

First I've heard. I'll see if I can't find anything out.

Anything?  Curious why MDA would be closed...

I have been able to find zero information about this. I'll swing by the trailhead today when I am out and about and grab a photo of any info I see.

Ranger Tim is so kindly responsive...

He is now taking responsibility for the western edge of the NP and well as for the SP.
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

Yes! Give me a raise!

In all seriousness, I found no information at the trailhead. Further, there was only one truck that was parked at the trailhead so it didn't seem like any training exercises were going on. I did see at least ten parkey rigs at TFEMS and a big fire out back, so that looked like an exercise for sure. I can't speculate about the closure beyond what I saw.
