Title: Smokey Creek
Post by: dprather on December 20, 2013, 05:15:59 PM
Can anyone tell me the length of the following trip (in miles and days)?

Begin at (1) Homer Wilson Overlook, travel  (2) up the Dodson, (3) down Smokey Creek trail (4) over Mule Ears, and (5) to the Costolon highway?

This is based on the belief that this is a "standard" trip.

What's to see along the way?

Yep, a standard trip if you have two cars or want to hitch hike back up to Homer Wilson.  About 15 miles.  A leisurely 2 days with water down the Smoky creek drainage.  Good views going down Smoky Creek in the upper section and a nice canyon section with water west of Sugarloaf mtn. and of course the Mule Ears themselves.

You could make a loop of it like the one discussed in this thread (http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/hiking-the-desert/blue-creek-south-of-homer-wilson-ranch/msg72929/#msg72929).  It would at 7-8 miles onto the trip depending on which route you take.
