Tinaja Lujan slot
« on: November 22, 2017, 04:02:51 PM »
Hello all.
I am looking for some info on Tinaja Lujan. Starting from the top of the drainage and descending down the slot that makes Tinaja Lujan, does anyone know if it requires a rope to descend fully? And if so, how many pouroffs does it have that need to be climbed or rappelled? I am going to go the MDA soon and I have many potential destinations. I know Tinaja Lujan is one of the more popular slots and am trying to figure out if it is worth my time.

Thanks.
It's amazing how quickly the human body deteriorates when you sit around indoors.

If you look at this report from Robert, and scroll down, there's a photo of Lujan with a person at the top of the slot. Shows the whole length of what you'd have to climb down. Also note that if you hike from the base of Lujan heading SE, there is a trail that parallels the wash and saves you a lot of bouldering. Check the satellite imagery.
I roamed and rambled, and I foller'ed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was a'sounding
This land was made for you and me

Thanks deserratshorty. I had seen that picture and others just like it on Bbc but I wasn’t sure if that was the only major obstacle. Thanks for the info.
Also, i have poured over both satellite imagery and topo maps. The bouldering/scrambling/rappelling/Climbing is the point. Plenty of slot canyons have use trails around them or to parts of them. Descending them in their entirety despite the obstacles is the goal!
