A Week From Today...
« on: April 13, 2016, 08:39:16 AM »
I'll be hiking up Pinnacles to spend a few nights on the rim.  Wanting to shoot birds and critters in the area.   Nothing really written in stone after that.    I was going to meet my mentor there, but he had to cancel.  He's not a hiker because of disabilities, so that does change some of the things I'll be able to do.

Thanks.  I'm pretty excited about the trip.

Alan,
Cottonwood is on my list. Heard that's a good location for a number of species, especially Lucy's Warbler.

Call the park. I just hiked the OML and met some campers on the way out of the trail (4/9/16) who told me the south rim area was closed for trail maintenance. They were disappointed that they couldn't reach the rim. Wouldn't hurt to call and check.

If it's closed, it's closed.  It's a big park with lots to see.  I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over things like that.   ;)

Really?  Maintenance?  Possibly a prescribed burn but hard to believe.   Sure they were not talking about the SE rim closed for Peregrine falcon nesting?

Just ran into a couple today who just finished the rim with babies on their back. Pretty hardcore. But based on the, I'm assuming the trail was open.

Settle down, folks.  Merely passing along what they told me. They were hoping to camp at SE2, but were told that section was closed. They showed me the park map they were given by staff with that section crossed out in ink. Maybe peregrine or a burn, don't know, they said maintenance.  Or maybe it's an elaborate hoax that I'm now a part of.....

I am very settled down over here.  Must be an elaborate hoax or more correctly just closed for peregrine falcon nesting as SE2 is in the area they always close.  Probably just a volunteer who misspoke to those folks.

I was told by some hiker who had been on the trail that it was closed because there was too much water in the bear boxes.     :017:

Or folks that misspoke to a not so dumb bear that then repeats the said misspoken notion that created the elaborate hoax.   I met a not so dumb little bear on the Ouachita Trail a few years ago.

Wow! This pic doesn't look anything like the original.  Too dark.  When you click on the pic it looks like it should.  At least on my screen.

Just trying to help and this guy gets bent out of shape. Oh well, better me than Amber, poor thing.  Her dad sounds like he needs to go on a long hike.  Great pic though....
