Having decent gear is nice, but wildlife photography is knowing your subject and getting lucky, and I love getting lucky.

Sorry Folks, Park's closed.  Moose out front should have told ya!

Just for the sake of sanity here:
The Southeast Rim is closed for four months out of the year.

Quote
The areas closed to public entry from February 1 through May 31 are:

The Southeast Rim Trail and a portion of the Northeast Rim Trail from the Boot Canyon/Southeast Rim junction to a point just north of Campsite NE-4. All Southeast Rim campsites as well as Northeast (NE) campsites 4 and 5 are closed during this period.

They used to close Casa Grande for falcon nesting, but that is no more.

Ah, vindication.  All stemming from trying to help someone who said they planned on spending the night on the rim. It's all good though, I'm learning what a tough crowd this is.

Vindication? You said trail maintenance.   :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

My 1st response to your post was laid back. I figured there was a misunderstanding and wasn't worried about it.  Most of the people on this forum are aware of the falcon closure each spring.  That only effects one corner of the rim trails.  And even if there were trail maintenance closures, I wasn't convinced all 4 trails going to the rim would be closed.  And if they were, they wouldn't still be closed by the time I planned on being there.

Welcome to the forum.  ;)

I said I was TOLD trail maintenance and that I didn't know for sure. You said you wanted "the rim", which is the area that's closed. Attention to detail optional.

Sigh, right now I'd love to be struggling with the inconvenience of a trail closure at BBNP.

Since you don't seem to want to take my word for it, please do some reading up on sites that are available on the Southwest Rim Trail during falcon closure.  You will discover SW2, SW3, and SW4 are used year round.

Actually attention to detail should not be optional.

ambersdad hit it on the head.  Attention to detail is actually what most of us on BBC actually do.  That is why we have been scratching out heads at the "detail" of  trail closure. :eusa_doh:  Those of us who have spent a lot of time in the park know that it is in the "details" that make the difference between a good time or bad, between life or death, between "is there water there or not?".   Folks who hike in easier environments can be slack in their details, or people who drive 1000 miles (or more) to Big Bend don't have the time or luxury to screw up.

I rarely enter into pissing matches but NotDumbBear, who has been initially welcomed with open arms and congratulations on completing the OML, has not taken the good advice of Casa Grande

As I said, dad opened this thread titled "A Week From Today" by saying he wanted to spend the night on the rim. He never specified  which area.  I merely intended to notify him of a possible closure of a section, since he was going to be there "A Week From Today".  Instead my reply was met with sarcastic then patronizing responses akin to "teen chat", that I guess, I wasn't supposed to defend myself from. I'm glad he's a contributor (although he doesn't pay attention), but in order to gain new contributors one must get a feel for the network of people they're contributing to.  Lastly, change my name to whatever you'd like, I'm not a child.  (This is a laid back response)

The heavy rains here has pushed back me leaving to the Bend until Wednesday, so I will be changing up plans.  Hope to have a decent trip report after I get back.

...and POOF!.... the bear goes bye bye.  ???

Well NDB, cool off and come back under another name in a few weeks, and try not to be so sensitive next time. The regular posters here are generally good folk that know what they are talking about at least when talking about the Big Bend area (and not that other stuff {politics, guns, religion, other thread locking topics that escape my sieve like memory banks at the moment}). If you love the park and the surrounding area, then this forum is too valuable of a resource to be put off by a little keyboard misunderstanding.
On the one hand I commend you for trying to be helpful, and on the other I think you may have overreacted or misinterpreted the meaning of ambersdad's post.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The heavy rains here has pushed back me leaving to the Bend until Wednesday, so I will be changing up plans.  Hope to have a decent trip report after I get back.

Looking forward to that!
