Title: Besides Emory, what other POI's are on the South Rim Trail
Post by: andrwtzel on March 17, 2019, 04:41:16 PM
Hey Everybody,

Making another trip out to Big Bend in a couple weeks. As usual we plan on doing the South Rim trail. We've done Emory before, and don't really care to repeat it.

Are there any other interesting places to check out while on the trail to/from the South Rim? If it takes some off trail exploration that acceptable as well.

Thanks!

If you enjoy stopping to smell the roses, the Colima trail is a nice diversion.

+1 on that! Upper Cattail is beautiful and interesting. You can walk the drainage as far as you dare, or hike the ridges above until you reach the edge of forever. And usually there’s water in the drainage which is, I believe, spring fed.

Another POI that occurs to me is Badknees’ relict Aspens. If you search the BBC archives, you’ll find a couple of interesting threads about them.

The entire High Chisos is a point of interest  ;)  Walk slowly. Stop. Look around.   :great:
