Hi badknees!
I emailed Ms. Clothier last week after seeing your post.  She replied to my email today with the following information:

As best I know, Cherry Springs is in the drainage system that goes to Cattail Falls.  Patricia

I guess Patricia's answer made sense to badknees but I am still not making any sense of it. Can some one be more explicit?

thanks!

since he had to ask where it was at all, i bet no one can be more explicit. just add it to your list of things to see next time you're out there and spend an afternoon walking up the draining from the RMSD

I suspect it is one of the springs that feed the dam in Cattail. That would be the only easily accessible one that I can think of in Cattail. I would assume that most areas of Cattail below the dam and on to the falls were mostly unknown to most of the early settlers, just like they are today.
