Best South Rim Campsite
« on: October 05, 2019, 05:40:19 AM »
I'd like opinions on the best South Rim Campsite. I am hoping to complete the OML first and camp at South Rim the last night prior to descending BC trail to car. Wanting of course great sunrise and view of OML to see where we were and did. Will be coming up Juniper.

Here is an old thread with lots of opinions.  SW3 is the only site with a view from the site itself, others have close by views.

Here is another thread

NE3 and NE5 are very close to the eastern rim and have great sunrise views. NE4 is on a promontory that juts out from the rim and has views in a number of directions very close by. None will have a view of the entire Dodson route, but you could get that by going around the Rim to the west and descending the Laguna Meadows Trail instead.

The photo is a view of sunrise from rim near NE3 or NE5 (They're very close together) from June 2017. If you're talking a winter trip, the sun will rise farther south, so SE4 and SE3 will also provide short walks to excellent sunrise views.
