Just got back from Chisos - Water report and Bear Pictures
« on: June 19, 2010, 12:34:09 AM »
Ok..  So we just got back from Big Bend..  We (My wife, 11 year old son, 13 year old nephew, and myself) ended up hiking to Boot Canyon to camp out.  Was nice, but wore us our since we didn't expect the climb..  :)

Boot Canyon - Site BC3

First morning we woke up to a pretty good size black bear about 5 feet away from our tent..  He was easlier scared after I got up..  got a few pics and a quick video.

For video go to - Not too much..  I end up half way dropping the camera and just turn it off..  I have a few other photos of the other bears, but just parts of the bears behind trees and/or videos of them running off to the canyon below..

I check out the water level in boot canyon and wasn't much there until after a good rain..  Here is the small qty from the first day.  Was kinda nasty water.  :)

We did have a lot of fun though.  While walking out a couple in spot BC1 wouldn't take the hint that we were walking through (even making lots of noise)..  They were having too much "fun" in a tent with the windows open..  Like we couldn't see through the mesh..  Had to hide the boys eyes...

Well..  There ya go..  :)

Thanks,
Michael

Sounds like a fun trip.

Was Boot Spring flowing?

That was the first time I have been there, but I went up and down the spring area and only found that one spot that had water..  Nothing flowing.

Nice pic of the bear!  This really makes me hungry to get out there again.

So, let me see if I got this, you were lucky enough to see both kinds of "wildlife" and you only take movies of the bear?  :icon_rolleyes:

Joking aside that is a great pic of the bear. :eusa_clap:

Are you sure you do not have more pictures of your trip?. I am only seeing 2 pics and a quick video of a glimpse of the bear. Curious, that is me.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

bourgm,
I was so busy with my little joke that I forgot to remind you to go here
and get your merit badge for the bear sighting (must be logged in), after all you've got the proof. (to the best my knowledge there is no merit badge for the "other" sighting as of yet.)

I also must second Homero, you've got more pics to share, right?

I just got back as well and had an encounter with a gorgeous, olive-colored black tailed rattlesnake.  Got some good pics, but i don't know how to post them--technologically challenged.

It was a Panasonic LX-3--actually it is only 24mm-maybe 80 or so, so I had to get up pretty close.  I'll try and post another one of him/her telling me to BACK OFF!
