Wow! Right there in broad daylight.
And they added in "or other devices" in addition to hammocks. That was in the 2016 Compendium (kind of, the actual verbiage was "similar devices"), but the 2018 Compendium states "Supporting hammocks, slack lines, tarps or similar devices from natural features is prohibited as they may cause damage." So yeah, it's there in broad daylight, but not quite as detailed as the "official" regs.

Well, my reaction was more of shock and surprise that it even was mentioned, since most of what's in the compendium is a complete mystery to 99.9% of tourists.

Hi all, I joined this forum last year planning a BIBE trip that unfortunately never happened, but still follow along here and hoping to make that trip soon.

Back then I had asked if alcohol stoves are legal in BIBE backcountry. Regulations seemed vague and even contradictory, phone calls to rangers were clear as mud. This new brochure seems to clear up the issue:

Quote
Campfires are not allowed in Big Bend National Park. In order to cook foods you may use a backpacking stove, portable fuel stove or the barbeque grills in your campsite.
(p.10 of the pdf, marked as p.3 of the brochure
)

"Backpacking stove" and "portable fuel stove" certainly would seem to include alky.
