Other Hikes in the Chisos for summer???
« on: June 20, 2018, 05:48:24 PM »
Hey, Anybody have suggestions for OTHER hikes in the Chisos? We have already hiked South Rim twice this summer, Boot Canyon another time, Lost Mine twice, Window, Basin Loop (don't like BL cause it's uphill both ways!) and even a very small part of Kibbe Spring. It's "102 (too) hot" in the desert right now for anything other than a morning hike and we've already done both canyons, hot springs, Pine Canyon, CTF, Upper Burro Mesa, etc.  Any suggestions? Thanks, K

Great read.  My oldest son an I intend to do something like this early in August.
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

Try Casa Grande.  It’s one of my favorites :)

Thanks, everybody. I'll do a little research, here, into Casa Grande trail. I know it starts off Pine Canyon trail at the saddle but don't know any details. I've heard upper Cattail is more technical than we are prepared for. Walked into Maple Canyon a couple of years ago and I imagine that it's too "brushy" right now (lots of rain this month!) for hiking. I appreciate all the info! Blessings, K

It actually starts from the Lost Mine trail.

Everything you want to know - http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/el-saloacuten/hike-casa-grande!/

Also, Upper Cattail from Laguna West is not "technical" until you get past the dam. (about 1 1/4 + miles below Laguna West)
