Title: The Past 30 Days on the South Rim
Post by: Ay Chihuahua! on August 22, 2008, 11:19:48 AM
I thought this was interesting.  According to the data from the weather station (http://raws.wrh.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/roman/meso_base.cgi?stn=TS645&unit=0&time=LOCAL) on the South Rim, the past 30 days has produced about 7.5 inches of rainfall.

I sure was wet and green when I was up there two weeks ago.  Mud and puddles everywhere.

I wish I could get away to take advantage of all that water! Being able to go light last time we were there was bliss! :icon_biggrin:

I don't seem to be able to find a legitimate forecast anywhere.  They all differ.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a weather site I can watch for Big Bend?  I'd like to know what the forecast is predicting for this coming weekend.

As far as legitimate forecasts for the Big Bend region are concerned, there's no such thing. :icon_biggrin:

Check out the Weather in Big Bend (http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/big-bend-area-links/weather-in-big-bend-t1576.0.html) topic for links to several sites.

Donna, I have found it useful to watch the Weather Channel for a couple of days before going out in order to get the big picture on the weather.  It has worked well for me in the past.

We'll we're headed that way rain or shine!  I've never been caught in a rain storm while hiking.  I'm not sure how uncomfortable it would be, but I have ugly visions for my feet!

:::mental note to self - wear very lightweight clothing:::::

Hopefully, we'll be blessed enough not to get caught in a storm.

At a minimum, carry one of those disposable ponchos (usually $1 or so at Academy). An extra pair of dry socks can also work wonders at improving foot comfort after a rain.

Ya know, if you had bet me that the high temperature on the South Rim in late August would be below 70 with no rain involved, you could've taken me to the cleaners.

Ain't that the truth Richard! I'm moving my S Rim trip up by a month in part due to the temps...I'd rather not be faced with having to carry heavy clothes to stay warm. Seems like it's been much cooler than normal so I'll go in September and hope I don't freeze my a$$ off!

Man, all this talk of the Bend is giving me the craving :eusa_drool: and my trip is not until December.  I may need to go through withdrawal before then!
