I forgot one trip, and it was the very first one of the year; we went to the Rose Bowl in LA (TCU beat Wiscy) and stopped at Joshua Tree along the way, drove all the way through and climbed a couple things, including up Skull Rock

Toda I head to AZ--hope to see the sunrise down in the GC off the N Rim, and sunset from the top of Humphreys Peak; it is a nutty plan likely doomed in its infancy, but I'll give it a try!

OK; Sunday, started on the GC S Rim at 3:15 a.m.; had driven from Phoenix froma  flight that arrived 10:30; anyway, forgot my headlamps so I hiked it in teh dark--did have moon, starlight.  Anyway, made it 6.2 miles to plateau point at 5:45, 35 minutes before sunrise; was incredible.  Spent an hour 45 minutes there, eating havarti chees and crackers, a pluot, a banana, drinking, etc.  Called some people, etc as well (yes, cell coverage there).  It was incredible.  To this point I havdn't seen a sole, which was AWESOME.  Especially since, when I hit Bright Angel trail on the way out, i saw (conservativbely) 500 people ont eh way out.  Hiked up the 6.2 miles in under 2.5 hours.  Drove to Humphreys peak TH and was there before 12:30; had plenty of time to climb it, and plenty of ebergy, but the parking lot had (conservatively) 50 cars; the thought of going up a somewhat uninteresting mountain with 100+ people did not appeal to me, and I was sleepy, so I headed to a hotel.

One thing this taught me is (a) I like solo; (2) I am getting in better shape after having lost about 20 pounds last couple months (211 now); (3) I want to try teh R2R2R in one day; if I lose 10 more pounds I know I can do it.

So, since that mid-September trip, have done the Organs and Truchas in NM, have nearly done the GCR3, El Malpais, and now planning Wichita Mountains this weekend, BB South Rim next weekend and Big Bend Ranch last weekend of the year.

Not a bad year!

Sometime this holiday season, I am going to try and do either a blog or put albums onto a Picasa or some such

So, did the Wichitas Thanksgiving day weekend; did the South rim the weekend after; and doing Big Bend again last weekend of the year on a Secret Mission.
