Trip to Big Bend for New Years
« on: January 10, 2011, 06:58:04 AM »
I am back from my trip to Big Bend beginning January 2nd.  A wonderful time was had by all and the young whippersnappers really enjoyed the experience.  My son Wes experienced major blisters on both feet and I had to pull the plug on the trip prior to heading down the Dodson.  He was very disappointed but I knew that we was struggling badly.

The below link will take you to my trip report and pictures of the experience.   The young men are already looking forward to next year and Big Bend National Park.

Sorry to hear you had to cut the trip short as I know you had been looking forward to returning to the OML after so many years and worked hard to get ready for it but it sounds like you made the right call.  A good time was had, just not the one you planned for.  Thanks for the report.

That was the third time in 23 years or so that I had to cut my trip short.  The other two times were the same.  Always the feet that have been the undoing of the trip.

It was a wonderful trip though.  I got to spend some great days with my son and nephew.  They became life long friends.  I cannot complain.  Of course, there is always next year.

Skippy, I enjoy hiking in the Sipsey Wilderness and Pinhoti Trail in Alabama.  If you ever want to go just shoot me a message on the PM>

The boys did have a wonderful time.  It is always good to see the Bend from the faces of the young.  They truly had a memorable time.

I'm  sure that I had the same look on my face that they had. The Big Bend experience was one I will never forget. We drove non stop from Alabama (22hours) and arrived at PJ around 3am. Next morning as the sun came up it was like waking up in a different world.

I will give you a shout next time I get a chance to get out.
