Marufo Vega Trail

I did this hike before deciding that ultralight was the way to go.
Even with the hugh pack and ridiculous weight I loved it!

It was my first trip to BIBE and BIBE has been my favorite place ever since.

Thanks lighter fluid.  The report is a great help.  This will be my third trip to the park and this hike remains undone due to extreme temperatures on the last trip.  Hopefully the temps around Halloween will allow us to venture into the desert.

Dude...don't you guys ever smile?     Three group pics, 12 faces -- 1 borderline smile.  Maybe it was all that weight in your packs?  Seriously, though, nice report.  This was my 1st BB hike, and, aside from having the car broken into -- a wonderful one.

Where was the break-in?

Right at the nearest parking pulloff for the MF trailhead.  Had various items in plain view that undoubtedly contributed to their targeting my Subaru wagon.  Sister's toolbox in Ford Ranger pickup was also broken into at same place & time.  Foolish on my part -- live & learn...

I hiked Marufo Vega this past February and met about 6 rangers camped on the Rio Grande who were tracking the burros that have been seen along the far south end of the trail and along the river.  They said the burros are not actually wild, but belong to a Mexican rancher just across the river.  Clearly the burros had set up shop along the banks of the Rio Grande, judging from the mounds of "burro burgers" all over the place.  I never saw the burros on this trip (they probably saw the rangers coming and skeedaddled right back to Mexico  ).  The rangers were really cool--I had run a little low on water and was about to filter from the Rio Grande but they filled up my water bottles with their supply of cold, fresh water...VERY nice after a long day of hiking.
