I have graduated and am now officially a Mountain Lion!!!! YAY ME!!

I can only dream of the day that I join SHANEA as a javelina.

I was wondering... (my little mind often wanders... I mean wonders about things...)

1. Is there a list of ranks one achieves as a poster?

2. What should SHANEA be called when he breaks the incredible 3,000 post barrier!!! (I thought I posted a lot to get to 100!!!!)

List anyone???

Suggestions everyone!

I was thinking of prospective names as a NICE reference to a Big Bend related creature...

Look in anouncments from the administrator.

1 post = Kangaroo Rat
5 posts = Jack Rabbit
10 posts = Roadrunner
20 posts = Diamondback
50 posts = Black Bear
100 posts = Mountain Lion

And once you get to 200, you get to pick your permanent avatar name.  Way back when David started this, 200 seemed like a lot.  :)

Thanks for the info.  So I have to think of something to call myself ... I guess I'll check what other people have and try to find something different... I've got about a month to decide!

It is one thing to become a javelina... quite another to catch up with Shane...

By the time I get to 3,000 (3 years at my present rate) Shane will be at 10k... so I will languish ever further behind.

But Shane keeps me from having to search the world for interesting and significant news about BIBE and related subjects, so I gladly languish away!

And so it is...we accept our own possibilities, our own realities...and then we go on.

 LONG LIVE SHANEA :!:  :!:  :!:

What should I be when I grow up (and reach 200 posts.)

Here are my current favorites:

Hoary bat (hmmm the thought of a preacher being hoary...)

Fulvous harvest mouse  (what the heck is fulvous anyway?)

Hispid cotton rat  (ditto... what the heck is hispid??)

Nutria  (not really in consideration... is just an exotic and I ALWAYS wanted to be exotic)

Ringtail (one of my most vivid memories of Emory is having a half-hour conversation with a ringtail near the summit one evening.  No Undertaker... I was NOT drunk... and did NOT fall off my stool!)

Whitenosed coati  (I have never seen one in the park... but coatis and coatimundis are just way cool)

Jaguarundi  (listed as a hypothetical species... I always questioned whether I was real...)

Votes anybody?

There used to be a somewhat comprehensive list of animals (or at least mammals) that inhabit BIBE.  Has anyone found it on the new site?  Or maybe all the info is still there, just spread among different pages?

Here is the mammal list I consulted to make my selection...

The Carmen Mountains Whitetail is another appealing possible avatar.

Cool.  The list I was remembering was compliments of usgs.gov but I believe it's all from the same source.

Good choice. Nothing like putting down a taproot.

Looks like we have a few more members who've broken the 200 post barrier and are now eligible to pick their permanent avatar animal/vegetable/mineral name.  Just remember to ask DavidL to make the change, as he's the only one who can do it.
