I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on which route is the best to get to Big Bend coming from San Antonio.  Should I take old US90 or Interstate 10?  Which one is quicker?  I know that taking US90 is less miles over all but I figured it would take longer since you go through so many town on that route.

Thanks,

Neal

Greetings and salutations and welcome to the world of everything Big Bend.  Check out this link for a lively long discussion on how to get to BIBE from San Antonio.   On this board, you will find lively and interesting and sometimes useless discussions on everything even remotely concerning the West Texas Trans Pecos Big Bend Region.  Heck, it only took four pages to discuss the best way to get there from SA.   http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/index.php?topic=1932.0&highlight=san+antonio+route

BTW how heavy are the state troopers on I10 west of SA?  And how lenient are they, will they pull you over if you are going 5 or so MPH over the limit?

It's been six years since I got a ticket for doing 80 in a 70 outside of Sonora.  I usually stick to no more than 5mph over, but I was in a hurry to get to Sara's Cafe in Fort Stockton for lunch.
State troppers are rarely lenient, especially now that the limit has been bumped up to 80 for some of I-10.

Over the Labor Day weekend, we counted more than 20, yes 20, state troopers b/t SA and Alpine in both directions.  And I'm constantly seeing folks pulled over everytime I go out there on 10. I usually go 84 (past Kerville only) and have had no problems.

Thanks for the info!  I think I'll put on the cruise control and set it at 80-84
