I'll be in my backyard late Saturday night until early Sunday morning to get as good a glimpse possible at the annual Leonid meteor shower.

Fortunately, light pollution is as minimal as one can find in rural Dallas.

But I'd love even more to see pictures of the nighttime sky with meteors shooting across the sky taken from BIBE, if anybody is so inclined.

I saw the "big one" out there at Croton in 2001...here's the post.

Well, I can definitely say it was worth it - sleeping under the stars in my backyard on a rather frigid night.

Viewing stars billions of light years away and dust particles that appear as giant meteors against the pre-sunrise sky sure have a way of making one feel awfully small in this universe.

Of course, a Sunday morning sunrise is always enjoyable.

I was out at Possum Kingdom State Park for the Leonids.  I'm living in the Dallas area now and PKSP is the closest getaway.  I took my camera and kept the shutter open almost all night, from 11PM to about 3Am when I fell asleep under a very dark sky.  It was a frigid night.  My dog was shivering and finally found a spot under the extra sleeping bag to keep warm.

I'll post some pictures when I get the slides developed this week.  Might have caught some good star trails and a few Leonids streaking across the frame.
