i just started reading "big bend: a homesteader's story."  man, how would it have been to see the area in those days?  sounds awesome.  from his descriptions, i sounds like it would be vastly different than it is today.

by the way,  there is NO WAY my wife would have moved out there for me.  she would have sad,"unless there is a four seasons out there, it has been nice knowing you.  send me a card and let me know how that malaria thing works out."

That is an excellent book.  Langford provides a superb accounting of life in those early days.  Those early settlers were some tough hombres!
