Easy hike recommendations

this looks like it would be real fun. but cant figure out where it is at. I have been down the road to RGV a hundred times or so, but im stumped. I do have a few ideas of where to look.

Think larger. South of the road to RGV does not necessarily mean next to that road. Remember, it is near a gravel road.

You may find that effort disappointing as the relief for this hike is not enough to really show up even on the 24k maps. It is a good example of little gems that are only found by getting on the ground and getting close enough to see the features amid the larger, more drab view.

In this case you are looking for a canyon where none is apparent on the map since the relief rarely is more than one contour line. That could put it almost anywhere in the desert portion of the park.

However, you may find some other equally interesting places using the maps.

will go and do some more studying. hints are always welcome, but not easy hints, makes finding something like this a real treasure when you do find it.

Yeah, I definitely should have clarified.  About a mile is probably all I'll be able to handle.   I've done most of the hikes Al suggested in the past.  Ernst Tinaja won't work because I can't climb up on the rock steps to get to the water hole and Santa Elena is way too steep.  

Stuff like Glenn Springs, Dugout Wells, and the nature trail at RGV are going to be about all I can handle, I'm afraid.   I won't even be able to get to the top of the hill at RGV.   I just want to cry every time I think about not doing all these hikes, but I've already had 6 surgeries on my legs and don't particularly want to mess up all the reconstruction done so far.   My surgeons would have a fit if they knew I was planning to go at all.  LOL!  I'm sure you all understand the pull of Big Bend though, and appreciate that it is important therapy for me just to be there even if I can't do much.

So, if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

I'll reiterate my suggestion for Indian Head Springs.  It's all pretty flat except for some mild ups and downs at the beginning.  See my trip report.  You can drive down the hill to fairly close to the access gate at the beginning, but we chose not to since we were in a 2WD minivan and were unsure how soft the dirt would be.

Yes, a very nice, easy hike with some really great things to look at.

Wendy, I forgot to mention that my wife and I will be out in Big Bend March 10th to the 17th. if you are going to be there during this time let me know and maybe we can meet up for dinner or a short hike.

Sounds good Wendy. Maybe we could do the Indian Head Springs hike which I have never done. The wife and I are staying at Terlingua Ranch this time.

Its not on the the RGV road.  Its off a dirt road in that area.  I found it a few years ago when something did not look just right off on the horizion.  I need to go mark it on my GPS so I do not spend the whole time looking for it in the future.

Boy that sure sliped from a hike for a guy recovering from an accident to trying to kill the guy, my sugestion is try the 4x4 drive to Terlingua and hike up to the Store purchase a cold one or two or three and sit on the porch and enjoy. :lol:
