Author Topic: Where to park a trailer in the park?  (Read 1010 times)

So here we go.  We are headed out there the 1st week of March to enjoy what we hope will be an awesome spring flower fest.  So I am in the process of purchasing a Range Rover for the trip.  We also are going to pull a Pinzgauer on a trailer.

Not the one we are taking but looks just like it and its street legal.

So we plan on spending 3 nights in the back country camping and hiking with a group of 6-8 people in the Range Rover and this.  The problem is Where can we park/leave the trailer with out it being in a parking lot / campsite that is empty for the duration of our trip.  Would there be a kind soul who will let us park this at their housing or advise of a safe place to leave the trailer.  I have a trailer lock and its not spring break I just want to be safe.  I can not wait to go.  I may even do a scouting trip over president weekend.

Good luck with your Range Rover.  It will be a prime target for thieves in the backcountry if you are near the river.

I do not have much plans for around river road.  If we do I will leave it empty like I do with my convertable and unlocked.  We have not put much in to the tought yet on Agenda's we want flowers.  This trip has been planned for 15 months and we have been blessed with a lot of rain.

Why don't you PM Windchime or Webmaster Eric - they probably could find a place in the PJ Housing complex/shop area for you to park it.  If that doesn't work there may be a spot that the Campground Host could give you in Chisos Basin or RGV... TWWG

I think you are assuming a bit much here. As soon as an employee lets someone do this, the gates are open on more requests and expectations of similar treatment. Can you see the problem? And that is without considering any liability issues.

I don't think it's going to happen in either the housing area or a park campground. Park employees bend over backwards a lot farther than anyone else will to assist tourists, but don't abuse this and put them on the spot on a personal level. Campground hosts aren't going to do it either as there's no provision for storing unattended equipment there or anywhere else in the park.

However, if you go to Stillwell's or Study Butte I have no doubt someone will let you drop a trailer for a reasonable or not-so-reasonable fee. Support the local economy.

That is a great idea.  This is what I was need some help in thinking.  The other option we have thought of is parking the trailer in with one of the sag trucks.

Check at the desk in the PJ VC.  There is an area up at the Fire Management Office (FMO) parking lot area reserved for visitors with the need to park a vehicle while in the BC. You must sign in at the VC and the length of the vehicle is limited to something like 30'.
