Loop 1604 is horrendous on traffic from about I10 all the way to the Hiway 90 cutoff due to construction. It's one lane for several miles near the cut off to 90. I grew up in Del Rio and live in College Station so I used to go that way a lot. Now I hit I10 at Luling. The scenery is much better on 90 plus there's the sights worth visiting-Acuna, Langtry and the Pecos River High Bridge. You get to see the topography change from the rolling hills, to the mesquite foothills to the desert.
