Need info?  Just write to the Highway Department for all the information you need...

You get a map showing where the roadwork is...

Directions from your hometown with mileage....

A Texas fact sheet!

On you're way down, stop in Ft. Davis...

Perhaps stay a night at the Indian Lodge...

Next stop...Alpine!

Inside, a quick overview of Big Bend National Park...

and of course a map to help you get your bearings...

Lodging in the park provided by...

reasonable rates?

While in the Basin, the Lost Mine Trail is a must...

Trailrides also available...

Consult your park handbook for more information...

Mountain cottages...

Mighty Casa Grande...

The South Rim is a must...

Make sure and stop by the Boquillas Ranger Station...

and don't forget Boquillas, Mexico...

After a long trip...make sure and take a dip in the pool at Balmorhea on your way home...

What a find by BDANN!  Mucho Gracias for sharing with us.  Your tax dollars hard at work.  Imagine trying to get the highway department to put you a route together today - I suppose that's why there is AAA and Good Sams...

Thanks, bdann, for the trip back in time!  Something about those old postcards and old photos of places like Big Bend or Alpine make us long for days gone by.   Don't you know it would have been something to have visited those areas in the 50's and 60's?

I like this thread too, I'll look over the weekend to see if there's anything I've got that I haven't posted yet.  Haven't bought much lately, got the point where everything I was finding I already had.
There are some magazines from the 50s that I'm looking for though that have Big Bend articles, hard to find them.  I wonder what it would take for Eric L. to let me look through the park's archives?  (just thinking out loud here)...  I know that they have some old photos that I'd just love to see.

Freedom of Information Act....  I have a friend at the NPS who LOVES to use this to collect information.  PM I can put you incontact with him.  He is NOT at BBNP.
