toll mtn campsite is one of the best.....although I did nearly meet my demise there a couple of years ago during a lightening storm,  it still holds out in my top 5 places in the park.

Quote from: "Buck Nekkid"
I actually spent a very uncomfortable night on top of that rock overlooking the buzzard roost in 2004.  The views are incredible, especially the sunrise, but it was hotter-'n-hell on the way up.  Here we are taking a breather after emptying the contents of our backpacks:

The madrone tree made a nice clothes-drying rack.  It's funny, but I remember seeing a building back in the trees towards Emory Peak that looked as if it were two stories tall.  We later discovered it was the cinder-block toilet that's just off the trail and that only came up to my chest, but for some optical-illusion reason it looked far more distant and far larger.

Why did you sleep on the rock when the campsite is right up the trail?

Great pictures,  I've never been to that site but I will put it on my list of good sites.  Pictures like these make me want to get there even sooner.

Feb. of '03 a guy was killed at TM1 by lightning.
The Ranger told me TM1 was temporarily closed so I went to Boot Spring instead.
On the way up, I passed the "funeral procession" bringing the body down after dark (I left the Basin around 4pm and hiked most of the trail by moonlight.
Kind of spooky hiking in a snowy/foggy full moon night right after passing a dead body in a bag.

Trail? What trail?

TM1 still looks about the same... here's a pic I took of my camp at TM1 two weeks ago.

My only complaint about this site was the WIND.  It blew almost all night long 20-30mph.

As stated above, the views from this spot of the basin and Casa Grande are spectacular!
