I have no desire to run down the Glenn Springs road, I might volunteer though.

I guess the test cookout failed.

Please note that the January 2008 Big Bend 50 race has been canceled.  See www.bigbend50.com for details.  Our thanks to the race for their past support of the Friends of Big Bend.

I don't know, I checked out Big Bend Ultra Run and it doesn't list anything about it being canceled?

Of course, I don't know what he is sponsoring since it has been canceled.  I got an email from one of the race organizers that the official cancellation and details won't be posted until in the morning.

It will be interesting to see the reasons for the cancellation.  Perhaps in insufficient number of entrants.  Given this type of race, there are few who have the ability to compete in such an event.

I find it "interesting" that the Friends of Big Bend Site posted the information first, but that the official site for the run has no indication that it has been canceled.

A bit impatient, are we?  They probably had to wait for the webnmaster to come in to work this morning.
Event Cancelled
It is with sadness, but a focus on the fund raising goals of the event that the 2008 Big Bend 50 has been cancelled due to a lack of participation.

To make the event viable as well as to meet it's goals of supporting the Park, the event requires more registrants than have committed.

Refunds to all paid entrants will be forthcoming. If you paid online, there will be a few weeks delay since the sign-up service cuts checks after a holding period.

The lasting benefits of the event are reflected in last year's donation of $3000 to the Friends of Big Bend, and $2500 the year before.

Hey,  icon_wink I've bought into this idea of "instant communications" where the speed of light is not fast enough!   eusa_angel  Reminds me of the late great Grace Hopper --> the one who coined the term "bug" in the system.  CLICK HERE and HERE and HERE

It's too bad the event was canceled as it was a good source of funding for the FBBNP and BIBE.

Very Sad, maybe folks can not afford the fuel to drive out and be part of the event, continuing fuel increase may harm the park due to decrease in attendance. Hope Not.

Outstanding point Undertaker.  I for one didn't make it out there for my normal trip after Christmas.  Everyone I know was already committed to something else, but if gasoline had of been more reasonably priced, I'd have gone solo.  I just couldn't afford 7-8 fill ups hauling R2D2 and 5-6 not hauling R2D2.
