Does seeing a lion streak across the trail count?  We saw last year on Pinnacles trail, but it was so fast we had no time to react.   If so, let me know... thanks.

Sure, but if you have to pry one off you it counts for more.

I would like to apply for the "Veg Out" merit badge, wet (hot springs), dry (watching suset/sunrise from South Rim), mixed veg out beer (wet) dry (Terlinqua Store Front Porch), or the night veg (drinking a cool one under an incredable blanket of stars). beer_chug

Saw 3 bears (mother and two cubs) a few years back in Pine Canyon.  It was from pretty far way so I'm not going to count it.

I have never seen a puma in the wild.  But I'm pretty sure that I've been very very close.  I'm pretty sure one was tracking/sizing-up my Brother and I up last year in the Banta Shut-In area.  On the way to the shut-in we spotted many signs of puma activity.  Very fresh scat as well as many tracks.  I think we pissed it off by disturbing him/her during a evening drink.  We even heard it a couple of times.  Spooked even us, experienced hikers that we are.
