Thanks for sharing, RichardM.
I have ordered several books about Big Bend and the Big Bend map that adorns my wall at work from them. They are great to deal with and have super fast shipping. :D

This is the organization I'm volunteering for this month. A good group. Any support/orders from them would be appreciated, I'm sure.

Jim,
Do they sell USGS quads? I don't see them at the sight, but I thought they did.

Randell needs to give a testimony and witness on the virtues of a GPS unit. Time to go paperless and go with a GPS unit. Randell has only had his new unit for a few days and is a convert I believe. Br. Randell, please give us a testimony and witness on the miracles of GPSing. :!:
Amen.

Come on help stimulate this economy. US Consumers make up the vast percentage of the GDP - the more you spend, the less you save, the stronger the economy gets and the poorer you are - but at least you will have a new neat toy - that is vital to navigating the West Texas Trans Pecos Big Bend Region.

Got one
.
But I like maps. I like looking at maps, reading maps, holding maps, finding a place on a map and wondering what's there, dreaming of going there to find out. Nothing takes the place of a good map. Plus, buying a GPS doesn't help BBNHA.
And I bet I'm not alone when it comes to loving maps.

Aren't you supposed to buy and carry both? GPS units can get busted after dropping it trying to whip out the camera to snap a pic of the panther and maps can blow away in the wind...

Kudos to the volunteers at the bookstore. I placed an order late on a Saturday afternoon. Got an e-mail almost immediately, then another e-mail that they were preparing the order. Got an e-mail on Sunday morning saying the order had been taken to the post office. The books were in my mailbox in north Texas on Wednesday. Not only do I get to feel warm and fuzzy for helping this worthy organization, but I feel great because of the great service!! 8)

I love to have the paper topos spread out on the floor, etc., but I also enjoy maps and aerial photos on the computer. They are doubly great with your gps tracks. If you like maps....and I do too....you will love plotting your gps tracks on the maps and aerial photos after you get home. It is really fun to check out exactly where you were, how far you made it up the slope, the total distance you traveled, how close you were to something that suddenly you see on the aerial and now must go back and check out etc. etc.

I'm with you guys. I have my gps, but I still have maps hanging in my office and at my house and I still have at least a dozen maps in the car at all times. I just ordered more maps this week! I like maps in paper or digital.

Great! The first link is to a book by Peter Koch. Does anyone know how or if he is related to Etta Koch, who wrote Lizards on the Mantle, Burros at the Door?

That's cool, I need to pick that up when I'm at PJ in a few weeks. I didn't know Peter Koch wrote any books. I have a few photos he took at Big Bend in postcard form, I'll post them when I get the chance to scan them.
