Moderator note:  this topic was split off from The Way It Used to Be: La Linda Bridge.

On another topic I'd like some assistance in locating the exact location of other pictures, I took in 1992 so I add them to Google Earth.

If I remember correctly there was a small parking area on both sides of the road.  I thought I took the picture on highway 170 just west of Lajitas, but I can't find anything on Google Earth that resembles the area as I remember it.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate.

The pictures can be seen at:

thank you.

and
look like they were taken here on the road up Green Gulch to the Basin.

looks like maybe this spot a little farther up the road, but I'm not real sure about that.

Thank you,  but if I remember correctly the pictures were all taken at the same location.  I parked the car on the left side of the road and the sign was on the right side of the road.

It's definitely from one of the pull-outs on the Green Gulch road.  I'll have to defer to someone else with a better memory than mine...

Thank you for your help.  I found the following picture

http://www.panoramio.com/photo/2486791

which is the same view as the picture I took in 1992.  The only problem with this picture is it appears to be in the wrong location.  From the information I was able to gather the mountain in the background appears to be Casa Grande.

If you look at my picture
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/5813837
I have it mapped to the location that I think the picture was taken from.

thanks again.

Hey saintyukon,

I'm not sure exactly how important is is for you to have the exact spot of your 1992 picture, but RichardM has noted the correct location for the first two photos. The location that you've selected
(on Google Earth) is a little too far south. I understand that in the picture Casa Grande seems to be looming over the sign and that is no doubt why you picked the upper location. If you'll note in your picture (or the other one that you found) there is a Ridge descending from the right that the road goes around to the left (the road curves to the east). This ridge would be behind you in the location that you selected. Only Mount Huffman (and of course Casa Grande) would be visible from the upper location. These two pullouts are both on the right (west) as you climb up into the Basin and are the former locations of the ol' water barrels that were there years ago to assist motorists with overheating autos (they're on the right {west} because cars only overheated as a rule when climbing up the road).  I know of no improved pullouts on the east side of that road only one small gravel wide shoulder "pull over" further down that I use frequently on my visits to the park. The third photo is difficult for me to place because the terrain behind the wall seems to be going up and I'm fairly sure that it drops away at both of the water barrel pullouts. It looks a lot like the parking area for the Lost Mine Trail, the rock wall is right, the light angle is right, the terrain is right, however there are no painted stripes for the parking places, perhaps they weren't there in '92??.  Maybe I better go with "I have no clue about the third photo"  huh...ouch that kinda hurt. icon_eek
I hope it seemed I was trying to help and not being too nitpicky.

Thanks for sharing your photos. icon_biggrin      Hmmm.. once again it's after 2:00 in the morning and I'm on this board  eusa_doh...I'm going to bed. eusa_shhh

FYI:  The picture with just the sign is now visible on Google Earth.
