I'd really like to know the broadband speed of the typical BBC user.  I'm putting this under photog tips since I'm asking to help me determine what size JPEGs to post on my BigBend gallery on SmugMug.  I'm also of the opinion that the current photo-size limitations when posting a pic within a BBC post are overly severe; I really miss the opportunity to see larger photos without being re-directed elsewhere.  However, I fully realize that a) I could be wrong & lots of people still have slow dial-up, and b) there are other issues to consider such as server space, etc.  Anyway, thought the poll might be useful for a number of reasons...

for posting photos on the web for my personal use I generally keep mine small for several reasons.

1. Bandwidth , Im dial up friendly for the most part.

2. image theft. NEVER put full size high resolution images on the web for anyone to see, especially public browseable sites that any joe blow can stumble upon. Next thing you know you will see one of your images on a  greeting card or in a magazine Willy Nilly Willy Nilly with my name eating up the credits evil evil icon_evil and you will be all  pissed pissed

now that I have tons-o-storage on my web host server I have upped my image size to 800x??? this is typically large enough for the general masses

just my own .02

I should emphasize that I started the poll MAINLY because I'm just plain curious to see the breakdown, rather than as a witch'n'moan session regarding picture size.   icon_smile  [witch'n'moan?  OK  icon_lol]

James...you should be worried about photo theft...you take some very nice pics!
