My first attempt at Bibe was aborted with defective solenoids in the tranny.  Had to return home after only 24 hours in the park.  OK, I'm ready to go again.  Here's the plan:
Leave 5:00 am Monday morning from Longview, TX.  If I get to the park in time, I plan to camp at PC-1,2.  If late arrival, I'll probably stay at Stillwells for the night.
Tuesday, Cattail Falls hike, then Grapevine Hills hike.  Camp at GH2/3
Wednesday, Lost Mine Trail - spend most of the day around the basin.
Wednesday Night - I'm gonna bite the bullet and camp at RGV with the crowds.  I want to be there at sunset and sunrise shots.
Thursday -   Hike Boquillas Canyon and Ernst Tajina if road is ok- Hot Springs if I can't get to Ernst.
I plan to be on Ross Maxwell at sunset to get sunset shot of Casa Grande thru the Window.  Then over to the Starlight for dinner and a cool one and try to retrieve my hat that I left there last month.  Then drive to Alpine/Ft. Stockton
Friday - homeward bound.

On my last trip I did get to do the Windows Trail, St. Elena Canyon at sunrise, Tuff Canyon, Burro Mesa Pouroff, and all the stops on RM.
Then the tranny started acting up so I had to cut the trip short.

Not as adventuresom as most of you young guys, but an old retired f*rt has to start somewhere. icon_rolleyes

Trip report and pics will be posted upon return.

I wish you much better luck on this trip, and if it's not pushing your luck I hope you get your
hat back as well.

I plan to be on Ross Maxwell at sunset to get sunset shot of Casa Grande thru the Window.

The time I have spent there (on several different trips) not even a 100 yards or so
from the road is among my most cherished moments in the park. It's a beautiful time of day at a great location.
(I say that having never been there when a wind is howling out of the north, which might change things just a bit.)

We've all got our Cross Fingers for your trip.

Well Mr. East Texan;

I am pretty sure I am the only person on this board who can see you eye to eye on this board and agree with your frustation to return from a trip after arriving 24 hours prior and having to go back home for truck fixings.

My only advise is and will be: Take a Rosary on your left hand ,grab a hold of the steering wheel with your right and put the pedal to the metal. Any religious faith can identify with praying for goodluck. If you can do that, you can leave your jack, spare tire, hand tools...heck you can leave everything but the dog at home and you will float back and forth to your overdue trip. Simple as light in the morning.

Now go get that left behind hat of yours and bring us back some pictures and trip report.

Vaya con Dios,amigo....,,, mucha suerte !!! Cross Fingers Cross Fingers

Russco - You young guys HAVE to work just as I did.  I'm depending on you for my next SS check   But at least you didn't wait until you were 66 to make your first trip to Bibe  I've lived in Texas all my life and can't believe I never got out there before.  Got to make up for lost time now.

fartymarty - before my first trip I had seen some others pictures taken with CG peering thru the window and knew I had to have that shot.  I did get an afternoon shot of it before having to get my Dodge out of Dodge.  Here it is:

http://auderer.org/Big%20Bend%20National%20Park/target0.html

I want the same shot at sunset when ol sol starts coloring the Chisos in such a magnificent way.  Hope to capture that.  Thanks for the  Cross Fingers

homerboy I read your report and saw all the great pictures.  Sorry you had that trouble too. Hope you enjoyed the circus.  That spectacular shot from Sierra del Burro, with some cloud formations a top of a mountain was indeed spetacular!
And now, a spectacular shot from Sierra del Burro, with some cloud formations a top of a mountain...enjoy.

I was amazed to see the guys welding on the vehicles out in the middle of nowhere.  Guess we're just too dependant on our luxuries here in the states.

I've got the beads with me but I think I'll take the jack, spare, and a few tools too.   Does that mean I don't have faith?  Or is it "God helps those who help themselves."?

Anyway when I get there I'm sure I'll feel closer to the Creator than anywhere else on this old ball.   Can't wait for the sunrises, sunsets, and hopefully a clear night to see into the heavens.

I've only been back from BIBE for 2 weeks, and I'm ready to go back.  5 days wasn't near enough time to explore all I saw there.

Looking forward to your trip report.
