It's also important to use, store and maintain the filter system properly.  Make sure the intake never touches the outlet side.  When you are handling the filter system your hands can transfer contaminants in unfiltered water to the filtered side if you are not careful. So just think about what you are doing, be careful and it will do its job just fine.

Thats one of the things I like about the MSR mini-works and other filters that fit directly onto a standard Nalgene bottle.  The water goes directly in and all thats left is screwing back on the top.   But of course you still have to make certain your hands and the top are clean and dry.

That's one thing I have to be very careful with using my Katidyn Hiker Pro filter... gotta keep the intake and output hoses separated at all times.  Luckily, the kit came with 2 separate labelled ziploc bags for the hoses.

Boot Spring is dry.

It did rain/snow in the Chisos on Tues the 18th, but the amount was pretty insignificant. There is a little funky green water in Boot Canyon above the spring, but save that for the animals. The Chisos are super dry right now with extreme fire danger.

As of June 1st there is a decent amount of (relatively) clear water in about 20 tinajas along Boot Springs.  I forgot to notice whether anything was flowing from the pipe but the springs weren't flowing so I'm guessing not.

That's great news, especially for those headed up in this heat.  I assume you were just there, got a trip report?   eusa_whistle
