The RichardM Sinkhole

Can you imagine the lengths of red tape you would have to go through - to get the city or the builder to take responsibility for this?  By the time you reached first base with them, the HOA would have placed a lien on the house, seized the asset, and sold it on the courthouse steps for $1000 and then sue you for failure to uphold to the covenants.

The developer/builder built our house about 12 years ago, so I doubt they'd even give us the time of day without a lawsuit.  The Water Authority will be sending out an inspector to see if it falls within their domain of responsibility.  They fixed a sewer line break for us for free last fall (where one of the sections of sidewalk is currently messed up).  The plumber's estimate was for over $1800 minimum. icon_eek I'm about 90% sure the break was actually on "our" section of the pipe, so I just hope they'll fix this, too.  One thing I learned from that experience was that if you have a clog between the house and the main sewer line, the Water Authority will come out and try to clear it free of charge.  eusa_clap  Sure beats the $175 for the plumber to do it.  And, no, my wife doesn't want me messing with a snake to try to clear those things myself.  I don't have the best track record as a plumber.  icon_redface

Well, there you go. They dug it up, patched and buried it. Now, the place they worked is slumping. Cause and effect.

Actually, I think it was like that before they fixed it.  eusa_shhh

I got a letter in the mail today from the IRS, saw the envelope and went, oh boy, now I can afford to go get guns and butter.  But, alas, it was just a letter saying that I'd get a check sometime later this week.  My goodness, they could have save a bunch of money and just mailed the check by now....   icon_redface

I'm really proud of you. It appears as though you are coming over to the light. I suggest "Falfurrias" Butter, and a Kimber .45

I knew you had it in you.  rolling

I didn't want to send my stimulus check to China or Saudi Arabia, so none of it is being spent at Wal-Mart or gasoline.

I've spent part of my stimulus check on car repairs, the remainder I will spend on some plumbing work in the house.  Now if my mechanic and plumber turn around and use that to buy gas or stuff at Wal Mart....  ahhh well.

Looks like we might be spending some of ours on sidewalk repairs.  Our homeowner's association sent us a complaint letter stating it's "uneven/sunken".

This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the 'Q and A' format:

    Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
    A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

    Q. Where will the government get this money?
    A. From taxpayers.

    Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
    A. Only a smidgen.

    Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
    A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set or a  new computer thus stimulating the economy.

    Q.  But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
    A. Shut up.
