I did a one day trip today to Falcon Lake to get familiar with the camping etc available in the area.  A lady that manages a campground in Zapata mentioned that Falcon water level is coming up because "they" are are having to draw Amistad "way down" to do some repairs on the dam. This is not verified at all, but only what I was told.  If it goes very far down a lot of the shoreline area will be fit for primitive camping again. Please verify before changing any  or making any plans on this information.

I was wondering why the sudden release of water over the past couple of weeks. The reservoir was at 1109 ft. MSL before they opened the gates.

Looks like they have decreased the release though, anybody know how low it will go?

Good for Falcon not so sure about Amistad depending how low they go. Hey Homero, the rio should be flowing good through Piedras Negras this weekend. eusa_dance

Yes, i have noticed that today....however, i was talking to some friends from Acuna, and they say the water level is fine at Amistad Lake. Good for Kayaking and fishing.

I have seen Amistad bone dry, many years ago, and right now i can say things are different, but then again i can not vouch for the Intl. Water Comittee plans for the near future.

About 10+/- years when it was very low for a long time, some kayak acquaintences loved it because it gave them lots of free camping on the shore line and opened up a lot of nooks and cranies normally covered with water.  It also stopped a lot of the power boat traffic.  Naturally the yaks could go a lot of places the power boats had no chance of getting to.  All the yaks need is about 10" of water and they are good to go. My new yak will be good for that kind of thing.  It can be dragged over rocks without serious damage. Have fun.

That would be from about 1995-2006, I remember it well. Never stopped me from going though, just have to modify your itinerary for the water level at the time.

Didn't mean to put a damper on Lake Amistad levels, I currently have a trip planned for October, just don't know yet what it will entail.

Well i have been very lucky with Amistad.

I was there back in 1975 when all the dam gates were opened for a spectacular sight...if i am not mistaken.

 Check your crest graphic.

I also was lucky enough to catch my first fish, with out even trying. I was at ther shore, throwing my line, i was a little bit anxious for leaving, since it was a bad day, there was a lot of waves in the water, andf at that time my brother in law idi not know how to drive his new boat and we kept getting spray from the water breaking inside of the bassboat. I left the boat, and waited on him to get tired of struggling with it, and a big bass bit my lure..it also so happens that at that time , was spawning season and the bass were very exited.

Of course, this stinks as a nother fish story, but none the less true.
