Anyway  . . . depending on the time and place, I would happily drink whiskey from a plastic container.

I just have to say that I'm sitting here shaking my head right now because of how pathetic this discussion has become, and how disappointed I am in many of the people here these days.

This has become so blatantly personal and juvenile, and I really wish y'all would take a step back and have a deep breath before punching the keys next time. It's pretty sad when a small group can't even be nice to each other on a chatboard about a damn park.... eusa_snooty

Maybe some of the folks here need to take their discussions to Usenet.  If you can't think of any specific items to argue about, start here.

.....it's really too bad we can't have a civil discussion about this as adults.

It's really pretty simple:

Quote
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

This is the second amendment as part of what is called the "Bill of Rights" ratified on Dec 15, 1791.  This is one of the 9 original, first amendments to the US Constitution.  (The Tenth isn't technically a part of the Bill of Rights, although it is usually included since it was ratified the same day).  And just as an FYI, their numbers don't make them more important than the others.

To me, this is pretty clear.  Some might argue that the "Militia" is what the amendment is referring to, however, it is clear it is not.  "The People" are the American people, not just those of the militia.  Militias have evolved into the National Guard.  Although it can be argued that we are in a different time and place than our forefathers were, the amendment is still very clear.  Until there is to be a 28th amendment clarifying the Second amendment into today's modern times (good luck with that), the 2nd amendment still stands, whether you like it or not.  You can't pick and choose what you like about the constitution.  It is what it is. And that is that. There is no discussion.

For those of you who are scared of people with guns, how do you know?  You live in Texas where a concealed handgun is legal.  You have no idea how many people you come into contact with on a daily basis, are packing, and guess what....you're not dead from it and you are none the wiser.

Although he didn't show it, I'm sure Jerry Patterson came to our party packing.  He had a couple of beers and we had a civil discussion. There was no gun fight at the OK Corral.  Everyone can stand down now and breath.
