Randall, thanks for the reference. In these modern times you still can't beat a good technical reference book.

I went in the field behind my house today and some new flowers were blooming. The early bloomers have stopped and now the late bloomers are blooming. Brown-Eyed Susan Meadow Pink

Beautiful flowers and great photography. Makes me feel guilty for missed flower photos not taken the last few days.

You guys have posted some great pictures! This is a cactus flower I photographed on a path at Ft Davis St Park a few weeks ago. P.S. This is my first post here, so I hope I have attached the picute correctly!

Taken today in Central Texas growing along a road in an alkaline looking soil. Very pretty. Al

Looks like you found the larger version of the Meadow Pink I found last week. Very pretty. I found this White Gaura on my way to work and stopped to take a picture but my camera fogged up (I had it in my pack with my cold water). I went back in after work and tried again, but it was closed! Finally I made a third try and it was open again: I found the White-Topped Sedge growing when I looked around a bit. It's not a really attractive flower, but the long bracts make it interesting:

Can anybody help me ID this cactus? I purchased it years ago at a Cacti show in Fort Worth and I have managed to kill it after 5 years of flowering in a pot in my yard. I want to try and get another one but I'm not sure what it is. I plan on taking the picture with me to the next show but I thought I would share it here as well. The cactus was about the size of a small cantaloupe and as you can see had some wonderful flowers with very feather like petals. The flowers were white but the sun would cause rose-colored highlights to appear. In the words and boring monotone of Ben Stein "Anybody?....Anybody?"

FM, that is a fairly common cactus but I don't know the name. Another cheap flower shot from the back yard. The bird feeder in the background is a Wild Bill. If you have had squirrels problem like we have it is worth the money in seed: http://www.squirrel-free.com/specials.htmAl

Thanks Muse! That appears to be correct. I performed a 21 toot salute in your honor! I gotta go open some windows now before there's a spark.
