Anyone going to the Friends of Big Bend event in Dallas June 20th?
Friends Party

A group of us went two years ago to the Houston event and had a good time drinking and eating.  We had a better time when we went to some brew pub afterwards.  I almost had Randell talked into heading to Big Bend right then and there, until his smarter half indicated it wouldn't be a good idea.

I forget how much it was two years ago.  I know it wasn't "cheap".

I won't be going to the June event.  If you go, give us a report back.

Please join the Friends of Big Bend National Park for a member gathering on Saturday, June 21st at Energy Transfer headquarters.

And by no small coincidence, that's the company whose CEO recently bought Lajitas.

Everyone starting singing "oh what a Friend we have in Energy Transfer"...   rolling

Where do you see that?
I looked on the FOBB page and don't see any board members that have ETP connections...
I'm not saying you're wrong...just don't know where you got that-

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=ETP
http://www.energytransfer.com/ListDirectors_ETP.asp

I don't see any of those names here:

http://www.bigbendfriends.org/about/board/

I am not sure why it's a bad thing either...I must be missing something.
Vince

P.S.  I have followed ETP for a while...thus your post caught my attention.

Not saying that it's a bad thing, just an "interesting thing".

I think I'd rather just go to Big Bend than a meet in Big D with Big Bend as the topic  icon_wink

Well, deep subject for shallow minds line mine, did anyone go?  Does anyone have any details to share?  Or does anyone really give a hoot an holler.

 Off Topic!

Reminds me of "Woman Hollering Creek".
Leon Hale of the  Houston Chronicle / Houston Post did a write up on "Woman Hollering Creek" one time with ideas of how it got it's name.

I don't think any of the ideas had to do with Big Bend or the Friends of Big Bend...  but, then again...

Perhaps someone was driving with their wife towards Big Bend and as they crossed the creek she realized how many miles / hours they had to go with the screaming kid in the back seat - so she started hollering.

Or

Perhaps some women was crossing the creek and was hollering - asking about the details of the Big Bend Friends event.

I'm sure my absence and $ wasn't missed.  I certainly didn't miss it.

Texas Folklore:  WOMAN HOLLERING CREEK
Quote
# Subject: Woman Hollering Creek
The local story I was told about Woman Hollering Creek dates back to the period of the Republic. Supposedly a woman from a local settlement--which settlement wasn't named in the story I heard--was kidnapped by Indians, possibly Comanches. Her husband and other men from the settlement pursued the Indians, but were outnumbered and couldn't rescue the woman. She was raped, tortured, and then murdered on the banks of the creek. The husband and his party could hear her screaming but were unable to help her. Supposedly her screams can still be heard on occasion. Be that as it may, on old Republic-period maps the creek now known as "Woman Hollering Creek" was called "Arroyo de la Llorona." - C. F. Eckhardt, Seguin, September 02, 2006

I'm interested to hear too.

Woman Hollering Creek...haven't crossed it in a while but always chuckle when I see that sign.

If you find that interesting, you'll like this too.

http://www.texasescapes.com/TOWNS/Mobeetie/Mobeetie.htm

I was told that Mobeetie actually translated to buffalo dung, but it doesn't say that on the link, (but is does mention the interpretation was beet water, not sweet water.)

Anyway...funny stuff.
I like the t-shirt, "I'm from Mobeetie, kick me."
