Thanks for the post.  I wonder where the poor soul was found along Old Ore?  Not much water out that way and the blazing temps...  I just hope it is not part of the funnel effect that is going to be the end result of the border fence being built.  The “Funnel Effect”

In the mid-1990s, the U.S. government implemented a “prevention through deterrence” approach to immigration control that has resulted in the militarization of the border and a quintupling of border-enforcement expenditures. However, the new border barriers, fortified checkpoints, high-tech forms of surveillance, and thousands of additional Border Patrol agents stationed along the southwest border have not decreased the number of unauthorized migrants crossing into the United States. Rather, the new strategy has closed off major urban points of unauthorized migration in Texas and California and funneled hundreds of thousands of unauthorized migrants through southern Arizona’s remote and notoriously inhospitable deserts and mountains.

Second Body Found in Big Bend National Park

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

Authorities at the Big Bend National Park are trying to identify a second body found recently in the area.

Earlier this month, a visitor reported finding a body off the side of Old Ore Road.

Park rangers say the victim is a hispanic man between the ages of 25 and 35.

He did not have any identification, but he's believed to be a Mexican National.

Now, authorities believe this second body found was probably with the first victim.

Park officials are in contact with the Mexican Consulate, and are waiting for autopsy results.

Not a nice way to die, no matter where you are from.  I hope those who were with them are ok.

They found a 3rd body on the 16th. From the NPS morning report today:  http://home.nps.gov/applications/morningreport/

Big Bend National Park (TX)
Bodies Of Three Mexican Nationals Found In Park

On June 5th, rangers received a visitor report through 911 of a body off the side of Old Ore Road, an isolated dirt road located in the northeast portion of the park. Rangers and Border Patrol agents responded and confirmed the report. The park has experienced triple digit temperatures for over a month, making any cross country desert travel or search extremely hazardous. Rangers conducted interviews with individuals living in the border town of Boquillas, Mexico, adjacent to the park. They obtained tentative identification of a man matching the description of the deceased along with information that he crossed into the U.S. with two others on May 30th. Backtracking further from the location where the first individual was located, rangers found a second body on June 9th.  The systematic search of the 30-mile-long suspected travel route of the three individuals concluded on June 16th with the discovery of the body of the third person on an abandoned road near Telephone Canyon. Three backpacks were also found nearby. Identification of at least one of the victims was found within a pack. The bodies were transported to El Paso for autopsies and positive identification. Because the deceased were citizens of Mexico, park officials are in contact with a Mexican consulate office. Rangers continue to interview relatives in the U.S. and Mexico by phone for information to assist with identification. Additional information was received concerning others who may have entered the U.S. through the park and failed to arrive on schedule at their intended destinations. There are old trails all over the place along River Road from the days when trespass Mexican livestock ran freely there. Walking aliens illegally entering the United States on that side of the park, however, do so mainly at Boquillas. A few enter at San Vicente and go up Tornillo Creek.

Bodies of Three Mexican Nationals Found in Big Bend National Park

Quote
It’s happened again. A party of Mexican nationals who entered the United States illegally tried to make their way across desert terrain in searing heat and fatally misjudged the risk.

There is reason to think that additional bodies may be found in or near Big Bend. While conducting the investigation focused on the three deceased individuals, officials learned that other Mexican nationals who may have entered the U.S. through the park have failed to show up at their intended destinations.
