I have been wondering what back country camping in the Chisos Mountains is like....I have always wanted to go on a couple day trip Back Country but I don't know what essentials I would need to bring...I have to Canoe tripping in Canada (where I live) but hiking would be totally different.

I'd rather be on the South Rim

Here is what I packed for a 2-night trek to the South Rim in April. That should get you started.

Unlike canoeing in Canada, backpacking in Big Bend demands you carry all of your own water, which rapidly multiplies the weight you will be carrying.
