Black bear in Del Rio captured and released

A black bear that went up a tree after being encountered by a jogger in Del Rio on Tuesday has been captured and released at the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area in West Texas by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Quote
Police blocked off the area after discovering the bear had gone up a tree. Parks and wildlife department wildlife biologist Sylvestre "Junie" Sorola shot the bear with a dart and it fell asleep hung up in the fork of a large pecan tree. A city fire truck lifted Sorola and a game warden in a lift bucket up to the sleeping bear. The pair then pulled the 100-pound male bear into the lift basket.
A happy ending...

Bear captured alive, released

Rattay said the woman called to complain about a large black dog going through the trash cans behind her house.

Don't tell DHS/CBP or CHIP.

It's not unusual for them to cross the Rio Grande and wind up somewhere in Texas.

Bears are a good thing, too. It's just important for people to leave them alone when they see them, and they'll usually move out on their own.
Sometimes they have to be captured and relocated, but that gives them a chance to find a home.
And that's a good thing as well.
Biologist: Bear encounters may be more likely
Quote
He said it is important to remember that black bears are considered a threatened species in Texas and as such, cannot simply be shot on sight.

You had a trailing "url" after the html extension that led to a 404 error. Mr. Moderator fixed it. (Not much gets by the sheriff)

I just love the picture. Waking up from a deep sleep "Dorthy, I don't think we are in Del Rio anymore..."
Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling seeing that bear being allowed to run free.
I've seen one bear in the wilds before in my life and it was at BGWMA. No bear boxes there, so always always lock up your food and smelly stuff and haul out all of your garbage including the coffee grounds...

The Bear Truth...
Quote
“It was one of those situations that you never want to find yourself in — you know, with the cameras rolling and stuff like that,” Sorala chuckled. “I’ve been in this business for 35 years. Then, 2 1/2 months before I am about to retire, I find myself in the middle of something like this. Thank goodness everything went smoothly.”
Quote
Sorala said he has aided in trapping bears before, but has never been called upon to break out the dart gun in more than three decades of service.
Quote
“A guy was pouring a concrete driveway and went to town to run some errands,” Calkins explained. “When he returned, there were bear tracks in the fresh poured concrete. Evidence like that is awfully hard to deny.”
