new tent - REI Quarter Dome T1
«
on:

Have had my eye on it for a while...it was on sale this weekend...so here it is:
It is very light, very small, but surprisingly roomy inside. It can also be setup with just the footprint, poles, and rainfly (no tent).
with the fly..
fly/footprint only...
Pretty cool huh? (yes, i know I need to mow my yard!
)

Nice.
My hiking buddy has one of those and I have spent several nights in that tent. It is surprisingly roomy and it will keep you dry.
Ok, now when are you going to "field test" it at Big Bend?

Not sure, currently shooting for early November. KDANN is in Hawaii again, we'll probably go when he gets back.
I am heading to Caprock in late July, so I'll get to try it out there.

Red rocks, juniper, perhaps some cacti, and the occasional cottonwood. We're gonna do a couple of the loop trails and enjoy the silence.

I was out near there (Childress) for a nature photographer seminar given by Russell Graves. Had a blast, but did not get to see Caprock Canyons. I did stay at Copper Breaks State Park which had some pretty views.
What part of the park is your favorite? I hope to visit soon ...

I found the time somewhere between lunch and a 2pm conference call, or something like that. I dunno, not like I spent all day taking photos of a tent.

P.S. I was going to carry only the rain fly and there was any chance of rain, I'd want to be able to set it so the fly touches the the ground so water wouldn't splash under it onto my stuff and me.

Nice looking 1 man tent. I may have to mail order one... I need something a bit lighter than the REI Camp Dome 2 that I currently use.
I read a few reviews... many complained it was not designed for taller folks... Most sleeping bags end up around 6' in length when fluffed up.
