I've got to wait until December and I too have been hoping gas isn't $7 or $8 a gallon.  In the back of my head I think it might be the last time I get to the Bend, at least for a long time, if jet fuel and gas prices get crazy.

Just to keep us veered off topic:
Last time I drove to a dark site to look at stars, I tried an experiment. My little PT Cruiser was loaded with scopes and camping stuff. There was a roof box on top. Not exactly the set up for high milage. In this configuration, driving 80-85mph, my milage is usually around 20 mpg. This trip, I kept the speed right at 70mph and got 24 mpg, an increase of 20%. If I were to drop to 65mph, I could probably be around 26mpg which isn't too bad. With gas still going up, I suspect that I'll go slow and steady for my next BB trip.

My 2500hd chevy diesel likes to cruise at 60-65.  At 55 I see almost 21, at 60 I see 20.7, at 65 is see 20.5, at 70 i see under 19.  At 45 I still get almost 21. So I cruise at 60.
I had a 2003 Camry that did not care if it went 55 or 75, it got 34.  Each vehicle seems to have its special point for cruising.
