I always get 41 if it's available Muse! That big open area is very good for telescoping.
39 is good too.
After that, some of the lower sites are nice too.

On my last trip we were staying at one of the campsites close to the bathroom on the first loop and my friend was able to have his wife call the pay phone every night ~9pm and he would hear it ring and run for it. Turned out to be a lot cheaper for her to call him vs have him use his credit card to call her. The rates charged to make credit card calls from the payphones in the Park are very high. I prefer the sites with a shade shelter and concrete tables, most of these are in the older section near the entrance. The no generator zone is also good but a lot of the sites either don't have the shade shelters or have dangerous dropoffs for those that might be a little "overserved" late at night. Some of the sites are flat enough to pond water on the tent pads (which tend to be a bit depressed) so if it looks like rain is coming keep that in mind or you might wake up in 1/2" of water. The campground skunks and foxes are also very tame and curious so keep your tent zipped shut at all times and don't be too alarmed if they walk underneath your chair while your sitting in it... TWWG

I don't think I have a favorite since I've only stayed in one site, but I did like 52. 51/52 are right on top of each other but as long as one is empty that's not a problem. They Window trail is pretty close by so you'll get some people traffic during the day if you're around the campsite, otherwise it's pretty quiet.

I think it was site number 18, the last one before the exit to the campgrounds, that provided wonderful bird watching in the first half of May. It was really like viewing a movie about birds. We just sat back and watch many, many species land on the near-by bushes. Might only happen in May, though.

Funny, that's my preference as well. I guess that's where we always stayed when I first started going there as an adult and it became a tradition. I've also experienced both skunks and foxes coming into the site but not recently. On several trips we didn't even bother with tents and set up cots under the shade shelter.
