I can't wait. Anyone know how hot springs is looking, because last year, the river was too high and we missed out.

Welcome aboard! According to the info in this topic and ultimately the official BIBE Hot Springs page the river overflows the springs when the river level is 3 feet or higher. According to the latest Daily Report, the river is at 1.90 feet, down from 2.30 feet yesterday. The USGS Rio Grande Village site isn't quite up to date due to database maintenance, but it shows the following: Maybe of the the locals can go down and give us a first-hand report. Preferably with pictures.

I didn't think about it at the time but when we were up on the rim the 20th you could really see the river well even through all the fog and haze...swollen and large I presume?

Just peeked at the Daily Report; they've had over an inch of rain the last 2 days and the river's up. And it hit 107 in Lajitas yesterday .

River was at three feet on Aug 2. Just at the edge of the hot spring. It had been higher and the baths took a hit. Three heavy rains and hot (100+)during the week are making everything green and blooming. Birds, critters and even frogs in the desert are very busy and having a grand time. spc

Well that doesn't look like much fun for sitting in. I wonder how long it takes the silt to get cleared out.

Probably varies depending on the size and number of shovels being used...

Well, I know there's still a place for one in the deep corner. I've seen it worse. BBNP trail crews usually get to it if they aren't busy elsewhere (Emory Peak?). Or sometimes folks bring along a shovel when they visit. I forgot. spc

I still can't believe that Langford thought it would be a good idea to build a bath house that was practically in the middle of the Rio.

Yep, it was an actual masonry building. Seems to have withstood the elements until it was abandoned and then this locally important piece of history allowed to decay by the NPS.
