Neat pics; not sure I'd want to be up in a tower while that's going on. I like the old DC-3 in the first one, too.

I am originally from Lubbock, and I can't tell you how many times I had to pull over on the side of the road to let a crazy dust storm pass by. They hit, and you see nothing! Thunderstorms can be impressive too.... usually when one of the big ones comes through, you would think you were sitting through some gulf coast hurricane with sustained winds around 50 mph and rain so heavy you can't see. It's a dry and dusty place, but when it storms.........IT STORMS!!

wow! cool pics.....I believe the latest cameras can take lightening shots fairly easily these days....the camera can detect lightening and shoot at the appropriate time....no kidding.

I was reading through the stuff from Randell's supercharged Canon topic and it mentioned lightning photography. The tip is to use your camera's motion detection (if it has it). Alternatively, you can just use the continuous shooting mode and hope you get lucky.

The only way I have been able to catch lighting is shooting video and taking frame-captures.

of course, all you have to do to get a lightening shot on any SLR camera is to leave the shutter open in BULB mode...the lightening will capture on "film" as it flashes.
